FOTD -- February 10, 2012 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I named today's image "Decimal Elephants" because it lies in the East Valley of a Mandelbrot set corrupted in its depths by Z^10 energies. The exact location is in the 'star' on the rump of the period-19 elephant on the southern shore line of the valley. I put enough effort into smoothing the colors to reward myself a bonus of a full point, raising an otherwise humdrum 7-rated image to one with a rating of a pretty good 8. The only trick in the image is the passes=b option, which is the fastest with this particular image. This option doesn't always work correctly, but when it does, it works great. It cut today's calculation time from a slow 4-1/2 minutes to a much speedier 2-3/4 minutes. Avoid all concern about calculation speed by viewing the image already calculated on the official FOTD web site at: <http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html> View it in stunning high-definition at: <http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html> And remember the original FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> which has the entire FOTD image history posted. Uneventful conditions prevailed here at Fractal Central today, with cloudy skies and a temperature of 41F +5C. Things are expected to become more active tonight however, when snow is expected. The fractal cats complained briefly about the lack of sun, then took up residence by the heat for the rest of the day. FL and I had an average day, which might seem boring to youngsters, but is exciting enough for those who have grown beyond the youngster stage. The next FOTD is due in 24 hours. Since tomorrow will be a Saturday, there is a chance it could be late. Until whenever, take care, and Athiests are right when they point out the harm religion has done over the centuries. But what would we replace it with? A universal rational view of the world would fail miserably.
