FOTD -- January 14, 2010 (6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The parent fractal of today's image is an abbreviated Mandelbrot set. An abbreviated set is what I call one that is not all there. As a quick check of today's parent will show, the bailout radius of 2 has indeed cut off a good part of it. But all is not lost, because when a minibrot lies very near the cutoff point, as today's minibrot does, all kinds of strange and interesting things happen to it. At this point words fail, so the next step is to run the included parameter file (it runs in under 2 minutes) or view the finished image on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> The name "Abbreviated Midget" describes the scene, while the rating of a 6 seems fair enough. The weather was pretty settled here at Fractal central on Wednesday. The partly cloudy skies and temperature of 37F +3C were near ideal -- at least the fractal cats thought so. My day was rather busy however, though not so busy as to prevent a quick trip into the abbreviated Mandelbrot set for a short look around. FL almost got herself into heavy philosophy during lunch, when she asked why I have such a negative attitude toward the world in general. Luckily, using my maximum self-control, I did not reply.
