Downloaded the missing dll - works and possible to create some MFR files from par. Other ones (MFR14-2) start and stop immediately or generate cryptic error messages. Only part of the PAR files are shown. Most of them just are not there. A MFR_10 image was created and all data were there after loading - SUPERB! I never have exspected that so it seems only some minor problems are left. The saved images dont show in the Fractint direcory but are there after the "r" command. Will do some more testing tomorrow. A big Thank you !!! Albrecht
Albrecht, John W., (copy to Jonathan), I also had the DLL problem in the Dec. 26th Fractint SDL version, and emailed Jonathan about it: libgc_s_dw2-1.dll was not found. Although, my error message had was spelled with two 'c's: libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll was not found. I prefer to not search for and download a copy of the missing DLL file, as the web site: "How To Geek" warns that you could get an incompatible or out of date version, or one that has been corrupted or infected. Recall that some viruses/trojans/malware are not detectable by every anti-virus program... I found that Jonathan has kept copies of all his previous versions of SDL Fractint here: http://fractint.net/ftp/experimental/SDL2-Old%20versions/ The last SDL version that runs OK for me is this one (that I downloaded at the time Johnathan posted it): http://tinyurl.com/SDL2fractint205alpha2017-11-19 or: http://fractint.net/ftp/experimental/SDL2-Old%20versions/SDL2-fractint-20.05... and "Pre-compiled 64-bit Linux version is": http://tinyurl.com/SDL2Xfractint-2017-11-19tar-gz or: http://fractint.net/ftp/experimental/SDL2-Old%20versions/SDL2-Xfractint-20.0... When I ran that Windows version just now it worked fine, although after changing the output fractal resolution around half dozen times with the <Del> key, it gave up. This 2017-11-19 version navigated to, read in, and calculated a PAR file for me. And has the nice <e> color map editor in it... Here's Johnathan's email describing this 2017-11-19 version: ---------------- Start of email: ------------------- From: Fractint [mailto:fractint-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Jonathan Osuch Sent: Sunday, November 19, 2017 10:45 AM To: Fractint and General Fractals Discussion <fractint@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: [Fractint] Update 11-19 to SDL version Folks, Image browser now draws boxes, but crashes after one use when <ESC> is used to exit browsing. Fixed Windows version to correctly read and generate GIFs. GIFs created with it prior to this version (11/19) need to be tossed. If you want to keep the image, use the 11/12 version to create a PAR using <b> and then regenerate the image with the 11/19 version. GIFs created with Linux version are not affected. ... [The download links in the email have been superseded. Hal] ---------------------- End of email --------------------- Jonathan's described his 2017-12-26 version as: (The version currently missing the DLL -- at least in my Windows EXE it is.) ---------------- Start of email: ------------------- Fixed image browser crashes. Fixed windows version use of long double. There is still a problem with input/output of the long double type, but the ML219-X3.GIF image should generate correctly now. ---------------------- End of email --------------------- - Hal Lane ######################## # hallane@earthlink.net ######################## -----Original Message----- From: Fractint [mailto:fractint-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Albrecht Niekamp Sent: Thursday, January 25, 2018 9:43 PM To: osuchj@mediacombb.net; fractint@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Fractint] SDL report Downloaded the missing dll - works and possible to create some MFR files from par. When I tried to run the download I got the same error message as Albrecht Niekamp--- libgc_s_dw2-1.dll was not found. So where can I find this little devil, and in which folder will it reside peacefully?
