FOTD 25-08-08 (Pseudo-Fractal [6.5])
FOTD -- August 25, 2008 (Rating 6.5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The parent fractal of today's image divides Z^2 by Z^(-97)+100. Unfortunately, this parent fractal does not exist. It has been totally evaporated by the extreme escape radius built into the formula. With the 'inside' set to the standard numb, the parent fractal is nothing more than a blank black screen. But salvation is at hand, for the active inside fills can often return life to dead images such as the parent of today's scene. In today's case, the 'bof60' fill works quite well. I'm not sure that what results from all this trickery is really a fractal, though it most certainly is a picture. And the picture is more interesting than might be expected from a bland all-inside image. There is a main bay at the bottom, with an imaginary shore line strung with buds. Scattered fields of debris fill the imaginary 'outside' areas, while a most interesting object lies on the left side of the frame. This 'object' is better seen than des- cribed. In fact, it is nearly impossible to describe it. I named the image "Pseudo-Fractal" since I'm not sure that it is really a true fractal. I rated it at a 6.5 to reward myself 1/2 point for my semi-skilled coloring. The calculation time of 3-1/3 minutes is not as short as I would have preferred, but I think the image is worth it. At any rate, the finished image is posted for instant viewing on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> A pleasantly warm day prevailed here at Fractal Central on Sunday. The warm sun and temperature of 88F 31C were ideal for outdoor activities of all kinds. The fractal cats limited them- selves to indoor activities however. My day was pleasant also, and F.L.'s new oriental lamp actually looks kind of comforting glowing a soft amber on the living room table. The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and if a thing isn't real, what is it?
