FOTD -- July 15, 2010 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image takes us deep into the large period-3 north bud of the strange minibrot in yesterday's FOTD image. The name "Mys- terious Depths" refers to the strange things found there. I am not sure if images such as today's are real fractals or artifacts of mathematical imprecision, but whatever they are, they make some very interesting fractals. The rating of an 8 is based on the mathematical interest. The artistic value is little more than average. The image calculates in 3 minutes, fast enough to keep boredom away and slow enough for a fractalist to work up a little anticipation. Over one inch, 3cm, of rain fell here at Fractal Central over- night Tuesday. The local farmers say this certainly did not end the drought, but it did bring immediate short term relief. The rain shortage for the year is still over 10 inches, 25cm. The clouds cleared away early Wednesday afternoon, letting the temperature reach 84F 29C. The fractal cats must have approved of things.
