FOTD 14-06-05 (Four Score and More [8])
FOTD -- June 14, 2005 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: With a bit of extra time to explore, I found a fractal in an almost-M-set that earns a rating of an excellent 8. The midget itself lurks at the center of the frame, and is beyond resolution, but the pattern around it is one I have never seen the likes of in the classic M-set. Apparently, there is a whole new world waiting to be explored in these almost-M-sets. The scene is located in the East Valley of the second large midget beyond the largest midget on the infinitely-divided main stem of the Z^2.000000002+C Mandeloid. The discontinuities in this area are very thick. Everything is well broken. But there are so many breaks that, instead of destroying the patterns, the breaks themselves create new patterns. In some places, the equally-spaced breaks give the effect of an image reflected off the ripples of a lake. The four-pointed 'star' in today's image is not composed of the usual equal-iteration bands. It is composed of discontinuities arranged in the shape of a star. True, the image was rendered with the outside set to 'tdis', but the image appears almost the same with the outside set to the standard 'iter'. With no real work to distract me, I was able to put extra effort into coloring the image. The result is an image that honestly rates the 8 I gave it. I named the image "Four Score and More". Maybe I was thinking of Gettysburg, where I stopped briefly on my holiday. The 17-minute render time is a bit slow, but the image is worth the wait. For those who would rather not wait, the image is posted on the FOTD web site, ready to be downloaded. The FOTD web site may be accessed at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> The four hot humid days since the last FOTD resulted in very lazy cats, though with the fractal duo it is hard to tell the difference. The only time they showed action was Monday evening, when a bolt of lightning from a distant thunder-shower unexpectedly struck nearby. No rain fell, but the sound was startling. The duo dashed to their security closet and hid there for nearly an hour. Today is beginning hot and muggy again. The cats will likely be lazy again. For me, there is just enough work waiting to prevent boredom from setting in before I get to the interesting scenes of fractal land. Unless I take another short vacation, which is unlikely, the next FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and are dreams real? Really?
