Which OS and version is your IE running under when getting this error?? Which version of IE are you getting this error on?? I have tested the web pages on three different machines, each with a different Windows OS which have all the available Microsoft updates applied to them: Win-98, Win-XP, and Vista. Have also tested the web pages using several browser clients, and different version levels: MS-IE at 7.0.5730.13 and 7.0.6001.18000 Firefox at 3.0.1 and 3.0.6 Opera Chrome Avant
The server did not understand the request, or the request was invalid. Error processing resource http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd
This is part of the DOCTYPE statement. Each of the recent web documents begin with the following: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> They have been validated with the W3C validators at: http://www.w3.org/QA/Tools/ And show as being valid for XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS level 2.1. Well, I get the same message when trying to view the FotD page using IE6 6.0.2800.1106 running under WINE on Linux: The XML page cannot be displayed Cannot view XML input using style sheet. Microsoft has always thought it can do what it wants (and when it wants) concerning browsers and standards. They have been playing "catch up" with better browsers since the very beginning, not to mention writing their own ELEMENTS and ATTRIBUTES. (Quantity of users does not mean a better browser.) The Extensible HTML (XHTML) version 1.0 Transitional DTD has been around since the late 1990's. The last revision was 1.2, and that was back on August 01, 2002. This DTD is the same as HTML 4 Transitional except for changes due to the differences between XML and SGML. The same goes for the CSS versions and levels. Microsoft is behind as well on implementing the current standards. Try updating from IE6 to IE7. Or better yet, get the Linux version of Firefox.

I have and use the Linux version of FF. I only have IE6 running under WINE for testing sites in IE6. The original poster's complaint was that in IE6 he was getting the error. I've visited the FotD site many times and never seen any such error - but never using IE6. So I was simply reporting that I also had seen it. FWIW, my employer makes us all use IE6 - and I've never encountered that same error before. So it seemed likely it was a problem unique to the FotD site, not to IE6. ;-) -- David gnome@hawaii.rr.com authenticity, honesty, community

Since I did not get a reply back on the above questions, I can only assume it is a 6.0 (or earlier) version of MS-IE. I did some more testing with the same three Windows OS's (Win-98, Win-XP, and Vista), but with even older browser versions than the ones mentioned before. They all loaded the most recent web pages, but some had issues in the way they were being displayed, based upon how well they handled the CSS. I even tested the ability to copy and paste the .PAR file from the web page. This got varied results depending on the browser. But the HTML document has the characters of x"0D0A" (carriage-return and line-feed) at the end of each line within the .PAR/.FRM data area. So far, I have been unable to reproduce the same error you were getting. And without getting the same XML problem, I can not solve your situation. ======================== MOST RECENT TEST RESULTS ======================== Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.20 ------------------------- Looks perfect. Alignments, borders, margins, padding, colors, sizing, etc. are the way they should be. PAR pastes as single string when copied. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0.2800.1106 ------------------------------------------ All font sizes are much larger. Borders are not showing. Alignments are off: text centered, and "block" areas left justified (no margins). PAR pastes as single string when copied. Netscape Communicator 4.7 -------------------------- All font sizes are much larger. Borders are not showing. Alignments are off: "block" areas left justified (no margins). Background-Color for "block" areas not there. HR are not colored. PAR pastes as multiple lines when copied. Netscape Navigator 3.04Gold ---------------------------- Borders are not showing. No Alignments at all, everything left justified. Background-Color not there. HR are not colored. Background image not showing (due to DOCTYPE specification). None of the .PNG graphics will display. PAR already is a single string on web page. Sincerely, P.N.L. ------------------------------------------------- http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/PNL_Fractals.html http://www.Nahee.com/Fractals/
