FOTD 30-12-09 (Happy Old Year [No Rating])
FOTD -- December 30, 2009 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: With the seasonal rush still in full swing here at FC, today's image is another quickie, with a calculation time of 1-1/4 minutes. The parent fractal is rather promising. It consists of an upside-down Mandelbrot set, with a segment of another M-set just to its southwest and a series of large irregular bays farther west of there. The whole thing is surrounded by a field of twisting filaments. Today's scene, which captures only a bit of its parent's potential, is located on the western shore line of the westernmost irregular bay. The main effect of the image was achieved by rendering the scene with the outside set to 'tdis'. The image has no rating, and IMO deserves none. The name "Happy Old Year" gives a bit of perhaps unearned homage to the year just ended. The fractal cats seemed happy enough, taking full advantage of both the sun on their window shelf and house heat.
