FOTD -- December 31, 2007 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: With today's image, we say good-bye to the overworked and underpaid parent fractal that has been the source of all but a few images in the month of December. To say good-bye we delve deep into what appears to be the East Valley of the parent, where we find today's scene. The most notable feature of the image is the small bailout radius, which has been lowered to the point where the entire image is about to be swallowed up. This broadens the elements of the outside parts and is exactly the opposite of evaporating an image, where the bailout radius is increased and the outside elements shrink and eventually vanish. The entire image has also been slightly stretched to fit artistically onto the 4x3 screen. In my opinion the final result rates a 6. The name "Good-Night Irene" is my way of saying good-bye to a parent fractal that most likely will never again be seen. The calculation time of 8 minutes is a bit slow, but this can be avoided by viewing the finished image on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Sunday began clear and sunny here at Fractal Central, but thick clouds moved in at midday and light wet snow arrived in the afternoon. The fractal cats spent the day watching for trouble. None arrived. I spent the day recovering from the rush job on Saturday. If all goes well, the next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours.
