FOTD -- September 23, 2007 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: To begin, I must apologize for the lateness of the FOTD. But we were out all day Saturday, leaving no time for a proper fractal search. With its rating of a 7, today's fractal turned out unexpectedly well, considering the little time I spent on it. The expression being iterated subtracts 2.3 parts of Z^(-1.75) from 2.3 parts of Z^(-1.25) and adds (1/C). The resulting parent fractal contains twin Mandeloids connected at the hip and surrounded by a large field of chaos. This chaos is filled with many small Mandelbrot sets, with today's scene being located in the East Valley area of one of the two largest sets. The image is potentially quite a good one, maybe an 8 or a 9, but as it is, I was too hasty with the coloring, which tends to the muddy side. Still, it's an interesting fractal, well worth a look. The name is pure whimsy.
