FOTD 29-03-04 (The Infinite Mosaic [7])
FOTD -- March 29, 2004 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: To produce today's fractal, I mixed together portions of Z^4 and Z^5 before adding C, and cooked them slowly over a low flame. The resulting dish took almost 1-1/2 hours to finish, but it was worth the wait. I named the finished product "The Infinite Mosaic". With its unusually intense colors, the image does have a kind of mosaic feel about it. And most fractals certainly are infinite. So the name seems justified. The render time is a puzzle. It is hard to say why an image with such routine parameters should take so long to calculate.
From its appearance, I would expect it to finish in something like 10 minutes. I can blame no one who decides to save an hour or so by downloading the completed image from Paul's FOTD web site at:
<http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> I sent the image file to Paul separately, so it should be posted by the time you read this letter. The extraordinarily brilliant colors raise the rating from a 6 to a 7. But the unusually slow render time lowers the overall value to a humble 8.2. It's still an interesting image however, with its tight mosaic-like spirals and tiny midget hiding almost invisibly at the center. The clouds moved in on Sunday here at F.C., then they moved out, leaving warm sunshine and a temperature of 63F 17C, which was enough to keep the fractal cats happy. The weather experts' forecast for today is again cloudy, but I see lots of sun and blue sky out there. I expect the cats will find this acceptable. For me, the work is in the modicum range, which I should finish in plenty time to find the next FOTD fractal. Until tomorrow, take care, and become one with the fractal universe.
