FOTD -- May 22, 2010 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is a scene in an abstract four-dimensional object known as the Z^2+C Julibrot. It is not a scene in the Mandel- brot set, nor in one of the perturbed M-sets. Neither is it a part of any Julia set. True, it resembles a Julia set of the East Valleys of minibrots, but only one single line of it is part of any Julia set. Actually, today's image is a hybrid. In one direction it has Mandelbrot characteristics; in the perpendicular direction it has Julia characteristics. It lies in the orientation I have named the Rectangular, which is defined by the imag(z) and imag(c) axes. The image, which has been generously stretched and skewed, lies in the East Valley complex of the large minibrot on the main spike of the M-set, a short distance in the plus-imag(z) direc- tion from the M-set itself. The rating of a 6 is about what the image is worth, (IMO). The name "Lost in Hyperspace" might be the title of a sci-fi series, but it actually describes the location of today's scene. The calculation time of 1-5/6 minutes is brief by any standards. Equally brief is the time required to surf out to the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> where the finished image may be viewed in relaxed comfort. A hazy sun and temperature of 86F 30C made everyone happy here at Fractal Central on Friday. The fractal cats were especially happy, though they still kept a watchful eye out for any stray cats that might have wandered into the yard. The activity around a hawk's nest in a nearby tree also attracted their attention. My day, and FL's day as well, were satisfactory. There is a 90-percent chance the next FOTD will be posted in 24 hours, which means there is a 10-percent chance it will be late. Until whenever, take care, and if you want to know the meaning of existence, check your fractals. The answer might lie hidden there.
