FOTD 16-05-05 (Galaxial [6])
FOTD -- May 16, 2005 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image continues the adventures of our 'almost' Mandel- brot set, in which the exponent of Z is 2.0001 rather than 2. This time we have rotated the set until the large southern filament intersects the negative X-axis. As expected, the filament breaks up near the point of intersection, and the midgets on the filament do strange things. The discontinuities in today's scene are so slight as to be almost invisible, but the large, totally chaotic area around the midget is something unexpected on the southern filament of the M-set, where ever more finely divided but sharply defined filaments are the rule. I named the image "Galaxial". The word simply came to mind as I stared blankly at the image. (I do a lot of blank staring.) The rating of a 6 is a bit above average, and the render time of 20 minutes is a bit above average also. The download from the FOTD web site is as convenient as always, though it does require going online at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> The weather threatened on Sunday here at Fractal Central, but the rain never fell and the temperature rose to 75F 24C. The cats took full advantage of the situation by spending most of the afternoon tucked safely away in the holly patch. After heavy rain during the night, the morning is starting cooler but with full sun. The cats will likely find the day acceptable. My day will feature some work and a few fractals. Until next FOTD, take care, and watch your excess iterations.
