FOTD 19-03-06 (Apricots and Oranges [8])
FOTD -- March 19, 2006 (Rating 8) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The parent fractal of today's image consists of three small Mandeloids, with the center one partially obscured. Today's scene lies in the 'Seahorse Valley' area of the obscured Mandeloid. I named the image "Apricots and Oranges" because of the orange tints in the area surrounding the central midget. The image rates a possibly overblown rating of 8. The render time of 11-1/2 minutes may be bypassed by downloading the completed image from the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Brisk winds and a temperature of 41F 5C kept the fractal cats indoors all day Saturday here at Old Fractal Central. Things that needed to be done kept me busy almost all day. The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and see the old familiar things in a new light. Jim, For a number of days now, I find that when I open Paul Lee's FOTD page by clicking on your link it covers up to January 2006 and no further. This has happened to me a number of times before. What's to do? Anthony Hanmer

Besides following Bruce Sanborn's recommendation as the first suggestion to resolve access, you can always reference the particular year-month FOTD webpage in question. Just add the first portion of the main URL address to the year-month FOTD you wish to go to: March, 2006 http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD_06-03.html BTW, though the website is mine, I consider the sub-directories and webpages associated with all of the FOTDs to be Jim Muth's pages. I have offered to create Jim's own "sub-Domain" instead of using mine, but I believe Jim does not wish to move to a new address at this time. (Maybe because it has been here from the beginning, back in 1997.) This leads to the topic of Jim's FOTD will be finishing a full nine years in a matter of days, and soon starting it's tenth year of postings. Thanks, guys, that's better. Sorry for the trouble. Anthony Hanmer On 3/19/06, Paul N. Lee <Paul.N.Lee@worldnet.att.net> wrote:

Hi guys, I've been having this problem for as long as I've been looking. Today's FOD is not there now (FotD_06-03-20.html), although Jim's mail appeared almost 2 hours ago. Nor does it appear by refreshing, nor by referencing directly. Is it not just the upload directory not being the live one, and that being copied on a schedule? And was that terrible English? Paddy

Well, I guess it's now another year and time to again explain the process of how the FOTD webpages are created. (I should probably include this on the main FOTD page for those new or unable to remember.) 1. Jim creates an image and saves the parameters as a PAR file. 2. Jim writes an email for posting to two different discussion lists. Most times they are the same, but sometimes they are different emails. (I use the PhiloFractal version.) 3. The PAR (and FRM, if not a built-in formula) gets pasted at the end of each email before Jim posts to the discussion lists. 4. They are sent out and then go through the servers from Jim's ISP connection to the two Mail List servers, for dispersal to the various members. 5. If everything works correctly, I eventually receive the two emails in my mailbox at my AT&T Worldnet account. 6. But, since I never know exactly when (or even if) an FOTD has been sent, I do not sit at my computer waiting for it 24 hours a day. 7. Eventually, I check my email late at night before going to bed. If the FOTDs are there, then I create the daily webpage, update the monthly index webpage, once a month update the main webpage, and upload that to the website. 8. If not there before going to bed, then I attempt to do them before going to work in the morning (if I have the available time). 9. If not the next morning, then when I get home in the evening. The process does not take precedence over my normal existence. I have a my own life that requires me to do other things than wait to upload the FOTD webpage immeditately upon Jim sending the email out. And probably also a good time to say thanks for creating and maintaining the FOTD pages.
Thanks!

I second that. Thanks Thanks etc. Doug
