FOTD -- September 25, 2007 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is part of a parent that is on the verge of turning inside-out. (To turn the parent fractal inside-out change real(p3) from zero to -0.2) This parent fractal, with its 2 large bays, resembles a figure 8, with lots of added attractions in the form of interesting nooks and crannies to explore. Today's scene is located in an area near the origin that is easier seen than described. This area appears to be fragments of two or more overlapping bits of Mandeloid stuff. In addition to a very critical value of the real(p1) and real(p2) parameters, the imag(p3) parameter, which sets the bailout radius, is also a bit critical. Changing the first two parameters totally loses the scene, while changing the third to a lower value loses the scene also. Raising the third parameter to a higher value works subtle but interesting changes. I named the image "Blooming Iterations". There is no good reason why I gave the image this name except that it sounds strange enough to be the name of a fractal. The rating of a 7 was well earned by the 30 minutes I spent tweaking colors. The calculation time of 1-1/3 minutes on the P4-2000mhz Dell fireball stretches to around 8 minutes on the tired old P200mhz unit. As always, the best and easiest way to see the image is to go to the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> and view it there. Another perfect day prevailed here at Fractal Central on Monday. The cloudless skies and temperature of 81F 27C could hardly be improved upon. At least, that's what the fractal cats thought as they stretched out in the sun coming in the side window. My day was neutral -- not busy, not boring, just average. The next FOTD is due to appear right here in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and if fractals are made of numbers and the universe is a fractal, is the universe then made of numbers? Or is it that numbers best describe what the universe *is* made of?
