Jonathan, if you have read my recent mails you have seen what´´s going on. After 6 or more maximum outzooms to a mandel image another mandelimage turns on with similar mandel contures and filled inside with many fully colored details. Can you say what´´s going on or mabe supply reliiable details. A multiplication factor, maybe. Also the environment is some kind of fog with drops that can be zoomed in and sometimes contain surprising images. Thanks for your assistance! Albrecht

I can only guess. There is nothing that jumps out at me. Your formula is probably performing exactly as designed. Zooming out could just be causing the swap between fractal types to occur as the threshold for changing fractal types is reached. Keep in mind that zooming out has a precision limitation similar to the one that manifests as blocky pixels when zooming in. I don't know how the loss of precision manifests when zooming out. It doesn't look like you have zoomed out enough to have reached this limit, however. Since fractals have chaotic dynamics, mashing together multiple fractals likely increases the chances of seeing a 'fog'. The coloring technique is used to reveal structure in the chaos. How successful this is depends upon how chaotic the fractal is. The more chaos, the more 'fog' and less structure. Jonathan
