Re: Fractint Digest, Vol 30, Issue 6
From: Margaret Willmer <margaret@duomus.org.uk> Subject: [Fractint] Making an avi from Fractint
Hello
I played with Fractint on my old DOS PCs and remembered the colour cycling mode. I even have a boot "Fractal Creations" from 1993!!
I have now installed the programme on my windows PC and have it all working fine except that I would like it not to take up the whole screen. I've looked all through the file list and cannot see a .bat or anything else where I might change the setting.
I am interested in making an .avi file, thence a dv film, from the colour cycling to use as an effect in a play. Does anyone know if this can be done. I have tried the windows version of fractint but the colour scrolling doesn't work. I am aware that Fractal Explorer has an .avi making mode and will use this if I have to but it is the colour cycling that I really wanted.
Can anyone help, I would be most grateful
Margaret

<delurk> Can't help you directly but can offer moral support. I used the composite video output from my video card to drive a VCR to make animated fractint movies. I modified some fractals as .gif files, replaced them into Fractint... so I could have text added and do color cycling. If you make the text in the .gif transparent color... it will NOT cycle with the other colors so you get a layered effect. You can also add other .gif images like photos etc and make them color cycle. Downside was that 640x480 is about the highest resolution that a TV set can reproduce. Higher rezzes just look blurry. Imagine... they make computer video projectors now. :^P How cool would THAT be (as everyone who lives in the 21st century goes ... 'yawn'....) H^) harry <resume lurk>
