FOTD 25-03-10 (Window of Opportunuty [6])
FOTD -- March 25, 2010 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is a near-Julia set of the valley leading to the period-3 bud on the northeast shore line of the (-Z)^(1.5)+C Mandeloid. The valley itself, or a tiny blown-up part of it, is visible as the fuzzy, light blue, gently curved wedge in the background. The image rates a 6 because of the curious things going on with the 3-armed spirals in he upper part of the image. The name "Window of Opportunity" must have had a reason behind it, but if so, I have long since forgotten it. The calculation time of 4-2/3 minutes is rather slow. The slowness may be bypassed entirely by tripping out to the FOTD web site at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> and viewing the finished image there. Lots of sun and a pleasant temperature of 63F 17C made Wednesday feel like spring here at Fractal Central. The fractal cats, not worried about outside air temperature, spent most of the after- noon on their sunny window shelf. My day was busy, but much better than Tuesday. The next FOTD is due in 24 hours. I'll give an 87-1/2-percent chance that it will make it. Until next time, take care, and rational skeptics fear that the world we observe with our five senses (the physical universe) might be but an infinitesimal part of the totality of existence. Until next time, take care, and rational skeptics fear that the world we observe with our five senses (the physical universe) might be but an infinitesimal part of the totality of existence. (...) If you count balance and distinguish between touch and heat, then you hav seven physical senses: sight, sound, touch, heat, smell, taste, balance. Someone might say that taste and smell are closely allied, and they are. One is gas chemistry. The other is liquid chemistry. Someone might say that touch and heat travel along the same nerves. They do, and they're encoded with different transmission chemicals or different firing rates or something, because you do not need to touch anything to feel radiant heat, and it is a different sensation than pressure. Someone might say that sight and balance are closely allied, and they are. The vast majority of people hav felt the room continue to spin (after a real spin) while their eyes are closed, though, so the vast majority of people can perceive balance without visual references to perceive up. Seven physical senses.

And if you allow that birds navigate with the earth's magnetic field then eight?

Hmm, you don't mention our kinesthetic sense. We can sense (to one degree or another) where various parts of our body are located, even without seeing them. Athletes and some auto mechanics (like my father) have fantastic kinesthetic senses. It's a very physical sense, too. -- David gnome@hawaii.rr.com authenticity, honesty, community
