FOTD 05-03-07 (Alien Desert Vista [No Rating)
FOTD -- March 05, 2007 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Things are still barely under control here at Fractal Central, but I somehow managed to find time for one minor unrated fractal image -- an image with not a single midget. The image might be called a study in stretching, since it has been stretched about 10 times in the vertical direction. The result reminds me of a landscape in southern Arizona, in the area where those giant cactuses (cacti if you will) grow. But the colors are nothing like anything I have ever seen in an earthly desert. This desert can only exist on an alien planet, thus the name "Alien Desert Vista". The un-impressive parent fractal was created by mixing Z^(1.8) with an equal part of Z^(-0.1) and adding straight (C). The calculation time of 3-1/2 minutes is brief enough to make the job of rendering the image almost a pleasure. But if pleasure is hard to come by, the pre-calculated image is available on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Sunday turned out mostly cloudy with occasional light flurries of snow here at Fractal Central. The temperature of 36F 2C caused the snow to melt on contact, but the flakes drifting past the fractal cats' window gave them a bit of amusement. In my department the work is still barely under control. Two more weeks of hectic activity should bring things in line however. Until then the FOTD will appear on an occasional basis, with the next installment likely later this week. Until next time, take care, and enjoy heartily. I can't find the updated link on Paul's page. Any ideas onwhen it'll be up?
