[John] ZoneAlarm does not use a threat list.
Hi John, Your statement:
...placing any faith in out-of-date firewalls is quite a dangerous trick.
You would rely on threat data weeks, or even months, old
indicates that you have made an incorrect assumption about how ZoneAlarm works. ZoneAlarm does *not* use a threat list. It disallows *all* programs access to the internet unless you tell ZoneAlarm it is OK for a particular program to do so. You build this list of programs that are allowed to access the internet *once* (in a very convenient way -- by inserting a check in a box when it first tries to access the internet) and add to the list only when you install a new program on your machine. You can edit the list of allowed and disallowed programs at any time. Please also see my recent post to [Peter] on [Fractint] and [Philofractal] for further details about how ZoneAlarm works. I hope this helps your understanding of ZoneAlarm. - Hal Lane ######################### # hallane@earthlink.net # ######################### ---------------------------------------------------

Seems to me that placing any faith in out-of-date firewalls is quite a dangerous trick. You would rely on threat data weeks, or even months, old? You could lose friends that way! You can at least discover if you are in trouble by freqquently using an on-line scan of your machine such as ...
