FOTD -- March 08, 2010 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Today's image is a scene in a near-Julia set of the area where the rectangles appear in the Z^(2.003)+C Mandeloid, but the formula has now been changed to (-Z)^(2.003)+C. The sign change makes little change in the appearance of the parent Mandeloid fractal, but the rectangles have totally vanished from the Julia sets, and in their place we find a great variety of figures. Today's image is a sample of the things that have replaced the rectangles. The name "No Minus Rectangle" indicates that as far as I know, no rectangles will be created by today's formula. The rating of a 7 is above average, but I think the image, with its feeling of infinite depth, is truly above average. The calculation time of just under 5 minutes is just about what I feel the image is worth. Those who do not enjoy running parameter files may view the image on the FOTD web sites. Perfect late winter weather prevailed here at Fractal Central on both Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday the temperature reached 57F 14C and not a single cloud was seen all day. The fractal cats enjoyed the conditions to the utmost. My day Saturday was busy as I tried to keep up with FL in the antique emporium; Sunday was reasonably uneventful.
