FOTD -- May 10, 2003 (Rating 5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Still another unusually busy day subtracts from the time devoted to the FOTD. Today's image is titled "The Edge". What is it the edge of? It is a point on the right edge of the large irregular open area at the center of the parent fractal. At first glance, this edge appears to have nothing of interest to reveal, but upon magnification it proves to be rich in intricate detail and critical as well. Today's image is slow because most of it consists of inside material made visible by the < bof61 > inside fill. But it is not an evaporated image. A good part of it is real material rendered with the < tdis > option. I could see nothing in the image that would rate higher than a 5, and the relatively slow render time of 36 minutes sealed the image's fate. It is merely an average image, and average it will remain. The task of rendering can be avoided by downloading the completed image from: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> or from: <http://sdboyd.dyndns.org/~sdboyd/fotd/index.html> It rained a good part of the day here at Fractal Central on Thursday. The wet conditions and cool temperature of 60F 15.5C kept the fractal cats indoors and cranky. Tuna was needed to restore their spirits. Today is starting wet once again, so more bad moods are expected. As for me, I still have much work to do, so until next time in 24 hours, and next fractal, take care, and have a good day. As the month progresses, I shall use nothing but the conventional equal-iteration-band method to render and color the images. There will be no 'evaporated' or 'tdis' images. This limitation will not result in boring images however. The parent fractal has nearly (and in fact, actual) unlimited variety. <<

Is this the result of: (1) A promise made but not kept! :-) (2) Just an exception to the proposed FOTD rule for May. (3) Jim reserving the right to change his mind. (4) Jim forgetting to focus on his announced mission. (5) A test to see if his readers are paying attention to his comments. (6) There was not unlimited variety in the parent and Jim was getting bored. I suspect the answer is (5). ;-)
