FOTD 07-06-04 (A Fractal Event [4])
FOTD -- June 07, 2004 (Rating 4) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I named today's image "A Fractal Event". Every fractal is an event. It is not a very great event however, because I could rate it at only a 4. The image is actually a scene in the Z^2.01+C Mandeloid, 150 levels up the logarithmic spiral, rendered with the outside set to 'fmod' and the proximity set to 0.006. At this level of the spiral, the M-set has rotated until the eastern shoreline of the large southern bud lies on the negative real axis. Today's scene is located in the confusion near the big break. I think it is the overly-brilliant Renoir-like coloring that holds down the rating. Otherwise it is a rather unconventional image that somewhat reminds me of a planetary nebula surrounding an evaporating star. The bits and pieces scattered throughout the scene could easily be taken as interstellar debris. Strangely enough, the pattern around the midget appears perfectly symmetrical, even though the exponent of Z is fractional. The render time of 7 minutes and the rating of 4 combine to give an overall value of 56. The job of rendering can be avoided by downloading the completed image from the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> Though the sky remained cloudy all day Sunday here at Fractal Central, and the temperature never rose above 68F 20C, the cats managed nearly two hours in the yard, doing what aging cats do best -- sleeping in the brush. They did perk up briefly when a mockingbird started scolding them, but the bird soon returned to its nest and the duo returned to sleep. When the day ended, they came indoors without urging. Today is starting partly cloudy and warmer. It looks like a better day for the duo. Today will be good enough for me if I can finish the day's work by sometime early this afternoon. But to finish I must first start. Until tomorrow's FOTD, take care, and see you then.
