This is completely crazy, but I installed a dosbox app on my Samsung Galaxy S3, copied fractint onto the phone, and was able to run Fractint! I'm not saying the user experience is acceptable, especially with the awkwardness of going back and forth to the onscreen keyboard, which blocks the screen in landscape mode, but that it works at all is a minor miracle!

The android dosbox app was the free aDosbox. I may just dig deep and get a $4 DosBox app that is reputed to be better.

For no good reason I upgraded my Windows 7 machine to Windows 8 while the price was cheap, and not surprisingly Fractint also runs fine on that platform in DosBox.
