The next FOTD is due in 24 hours. I'll give an 87-1/2-percent chance that it will make it. Until next time, take care, and rational skeptics fear that the world we observe with our five senses (the physical universe) might be but an infinitesimal part of the totality of existence. (...) If you count balance and distinguish between touch and heat, then you hav seven physical senses: sight, sound, touch, heat, smell, taste, balance. Someone might say that taste and smell are closely allied, and they are. One is gas chemistry. The other is liquid chemistry. Someone might say that touch and heat travel along the same nerves. They do, and they're encoded with different transmission chemicals or different firing rates or something, because you do not need to touch anything to feel radiant heat, and it is a different sensation than pressure. Someone might say that sight and balance are closely allied, and they are. The vast majority of people hav felt the room continue to spin (after a real spin) while their eyes are closed, though, so the vast majority of people can perceive balance without visual references to perceive up. Seven physical senses.
And if you allow that birds navigate with the earth's magnetic field then eight?
