Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

All one sees on the streets these days is people walking about 
in a kind of technological daze, listening to ipods, and talking 
or texting on their absolutely indispensable cell phones, all 
the while almost totally unaware of the world around them.

Observing and wondering about the physical world is what brought 
us the ipods and cell phones.  I wonder what the obsession with 
ipods and cell phones will bring us.

At least I am doing my part.  I own no ipod or cell phone, nor 
do I plan on ever obtaining either of them.  What I do plan on 
doing is to continue exploring the world of fractals, a world 
that might have been created by the mind of man or might have 
existed potentially through all eternity, waiting for something 
of sufficient intelligence to develop the math and means to make 
it manifest.

In today's image for example I took the almost linear expression 
Z^(1.09)+C and calculated it at ground level of the logarithmic 
hyperladder.  What I got was something that vaguely resembles 
the shadow of an extracted tooth surrounded by a slew of chaos.  
Today's scene lies in the midst of this chaos, just to the south 
of the center of the parent, where the confusion tries to form a 
rudimentary valley.

I named the image "Most Unexpected" because it contains at least 
two objects that look like they came from another world, or at 
least another fractal, and all this in a nearly linear fractal.  
I have no idea how two well-defined pentagons could possibly 
appear in the middle of a field of near total chaos, but there 
they are, making a mockery of common sense.

I rated the image at an 8 because of its unusual mathematical 
interest.  Artistically, it's worth only a 5 or so.

The image is a slow one, taking over 22-1/2 minutes to calculate 
on my fastest machine.  But worry not, fractal fans, for I have 
sent the image on ahead to Paul, and it will soon be posted for

Thursday and Friday were more like summer than spring here at 
Fractal Central, with a temperature of 77F 25C on Thursday and 
84F 29C on Friday, and hot sun on both days.  The trees are 
turning green like magic, while the fractal cats are turning 
over on their window shelf.  

I spent Thursday working and Friday recovering.  The next FOTD 
will appear in 24 hours.  Until then, take care, and watch out 
for those B.E.M.'s who brought us the ipods that put us into a 
daze so that we will be unable to put up much resistance when 
they invade earth.

Do I take the previous sentence seriously? . . . Well, if I did, 
I would never admit it.
