JackOfTradeZ,
...is there a "hot" color (red, orange, yellow etc) version [of Sylvie's smooth color map]?
I don't actually know. However, I played around with the Sine wave model used in Sylvie's smooth color map in Raymond's FIntMap program and come up with this simple map with red, orange and yellow in it: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/JckOtrds/JoT-hot3.jpg Here's the Fractint format .MAP file for that: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/JckOtrds/JoT-hot3.MAP The map file is loadable with <L> in either the "C" or <E> color editors. I'm not sure where you need to put the .MAP files -- either in your Fractint folder or in the /Map/ folder under it -- for Fractint's color editors to find them most easily. These were some earlier attempts at red, orange, yellow maps: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/JckOtrds/JoT-hot2.MAP http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/JckOtrds/JoT-hot1.MAP Please let me know what you think. Of course, the data values in an image have to be appropriate for a particular color map, but if you get poor results, you can try rotating the color map manually with "." and <,> I discovered that Raymond shows the coordinates of where the cursor is when it's inside his graph area. That lets you move your cursor to the place where you can read off the exact values to type into his Range and Color Level registers. I discovered that you have to be careful what color you have set to be modified before you click the [OK] button! Fortunately, Raymond provides an Undo button. I don't know what most of his 'button bar' buttons do. His Help didn't open when I tried his: Help > Help menu or F1. But read the info on the download page about FIntMap Help: http://www.nahee.com/Software/+FIntMap/ I once generated some Heated Object color maps -- like the colors an electric stove element goes through as it heats up -- or the sequence of colors of hotter and hotter stars -- although I hope to never see a blue-white stove top element! Please let me know if you're interested in these. I can send you some if you'd like. - Hal Lane ######################## # hallane@earthlink.net ######################## --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. http://www.avast.com
