Thanks for the reply. I use a variety of operating systems , this is puppy linux 5.7.1 , the sudo command isn't necessary for this distribution. I'm also migrating to Lubuntu 15.04 , all of these are on a 16GB USB flash stick . Your advise is appropriate for Lub 15.04 too. I tend to use Geany as my editor , especially as this has syntax highlighting and lets me compile and run various programs from different languages; among these is FreeBASIC .
