All my investigations of Jim's FOTX -- June 10, 2016 are (unless otherwise noted): - 5X oversampled (to 27 mega-pixel images) - anti-aliased with slight sharpening Full size image viewing gives the best results. Jim's FOTX -- June 10, 2016: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160610.jpg - No sharpening. The fractal's smooth curves have an artifact of slight unevenness at their edges due to the loss of precision at this high magnification. This is emphasized by sharpening. The anti-aliasing does a pretty good job, but can't get rid of all of the artifacts. Here's a crop of the original 5X GIF (6000 x 4500) for the above image before anti-aliasing to show the loss of precision: I used JPG format to avoid the GIF version's dithering that appeared when I cropped it. http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160610M.jpg The FOTX's "parent" fractal: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160610Z.jpg Enlargement of the FOTX's "parent" fractal: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160610Y.jpg Way out the negative X-axis: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160610X.jpg - MaxIter changed from 1500 to 3000 An enlargement of the leftmost bud in "X" http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160610W.jpg - MaxIter changed from 1500 to 3000 Finally, here's a view of some of the "islands" in "W" rotated 90 degrees. I call it, "The Devil is in the Details": http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160610V.jpg - MaxIter changed from 1500 to 4000 (~7 hrs Intel coreI7 3.6 GHz) The solid green ends of the two fingers pointing at the main figure is a result of the iterations being stopping at 4000. I calculated a version of this image at 640 x 480 with MaxIter = 25,000. The extra iterations add considerable length to the two fingers. It's interesting to me that the two fingers "pierce" or overlay the islands. http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/2016/F160610U.gif I don't have the stamina to calculate the image at 6000 x 4500 with MaxIter = 25,000 to anti-alias it right now. Maybe soon. I believe it could take more than a day. Later: So far, 847 lines of 4500 have been calculated in 4 hr 30 min. No thunderstorms are scheduled here for the next few days, so... - Hal Lane ######################## # hallane@earthlink.net ######################## -----Original Message----- From: Fractint [mailto:fractint-bounces@mailman.xmission.com] On Behalf Of Jim Muth Sent: Friday, June 10, 2016 7:06 PM To: fractint@mailman.xmission.com Subject: [Fractint] FOTX -- June 10, 2016 FOTX -- June 10, 2016 (Rating A-8,M-6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The name of today's FOTX image is "Lucid Dreams", though I would never wish to find myself in such a place in a waking dream. With its fire and smoke, it might even be the entrance to the place where bad people go in the next world. But the scene shows nothing like any of this otherworldly stuff. It's actually a scene near a larger minibrot very deep in an infected filament sprouting from the northern period-3 bud of a Mandelbrot set that is corrupted in its depths by cubic energies. The fiery lightning flashes and clouds of billowing smoke were created by rendering the scene with the outside set to 'tdis', an option that often works better than the basic iteration count outside fill. The calculation time of just over 1-1/2 minutes is true on my 18-year-old machine with a Pentium processor running at 200mhz. On any more recent unit the image would run almost instantly. I rated the art aspect an an 8 because of the strong feeling of unpleasantness it produces. And there's nothing wrong with unpleasantness. After all, who ever decided that proper fractal images should resemble fields of flowers. The math rates only a 6 because the trick has been overused recently. Maybe it's time to return to the warhorse FOTD formula, the 'MandAutoCritInZ', which has created the greater part of the really good FOTD images, or one of the other half dozen or so formulas that have helped created the FOTD's. With sunny skies and a temperature of 75F 24C, the weather was near perfect here at Fractal Central today. Along with the light work, this gave us a chance to sit and enjoy the fractal garden, which is always there but too often taken for granted. The next FOTX, (or FOTD if you wish), will be posted possibly as soon as tomorrow. Until whenever, take care, and whatever the quantum might turn out to be, it sure will be interesting.
