How did you uninstall Cortana completely? Using something like this approach? https://winaero.com/blog/how-to-uninstall-and-remove-cortana-in-windows-10/ Or this one? https://superuser.com/questions/949569/can-i-completely-disable-cortana-on-w... I put Spybot Anti-Beacon on my wife's Windows 10 installation, had it block everything. Then Windows Update put on the MS update to undo the Spectre/Meltdown fix. So I ran Spybot AB again - and had to disable a number of the trackers MS re-enabled. All far more hassle than Windows 10 is worth. For what its worth, I use Oracle VirtualBox on Linux and have a running WindowsXP VM on it. By the way, Windows XP may be a bit more virus resistant because it cannot run a growing number of Windows 7/8/10 applications at all - possibly including viruses. I've also heard that there are no extant viruses that can run on Windows 3.1 or 95/98 - if you have old install disks of those, have a go. For my simple fractal needs, the native Linux SDL version works fine, as does the original version of XFractint. On 01/31/2018 08:20 PM, Albrecht Niekamp wrote:
David, thanks for the tips. I have Ultimate adblocker on firefox and uninstalled cortana completely.and a hot tip for users who dont want linux : Using VirtualXP from Oracle since more then 2 years, still the first installed edition. It´s still stable, fast and SAFE I dont even need antivirus, adware remover and so on but did not have a single malware or spyware attack or anything similar. Oracle has done a terific job, the reason is also that the its too difficult to attack a virtual system or maybe it´s not worth the effort because there are not enough users. And the XP Dosmode is simply the best and fastest available. Re One Drive: You must release all files if they shall be availabale for opening and downloading so you are forced to select what you upload, no problem sofar for me, it´s your own stupidity if you have other files then the Onedrive folder open to sync.
