FOTD -- February 01, 2010 (No Rating) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: For some strange reason, I felt quite depressed most all day Sunday. Nothing out of the ordinary went wrong; it seemed to be something connected with overall cultural decline. (Real or imaginary makes no difference.) But even the usually dependable fractals failed to bring cheer. I did manage to find an every- day scene moderately deep in Seahorse Valley of the dependable Mandelbrot set, which appears as today's non-rated image. The name "Mandelbrot Mayhem" is something that came to mind effortlessly. There is really no reason for such a name. The calculation time of 1-1/3 seconds is probably an overesti- mate. On my machine the image finishes before the monitor can switch to super-vga mode. The total sun here at Fractal Central on Sunday was mitigated by a temperature of only 28F -2C, which was much milder than yesterday's 14F -10C, brisk winds and lack of sun, but still much too chilly to enjoy the outdoors. The fractal cats ignored the weather and sought the heat. I also think today is the 20th birthday of the only remaining original fractal cat, Thomas, who still thrives with my sister back at Old Fractal Central. If all goes well, and I see no reason why it should not, the next FOTD, which will not be just another scene in the Mandel- brot set, will be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take care and cheer up.
