Richard Giroux:
I personally am not happy with the way Fractint
runs in a Win2K or WinXp Dos box.
Try running Fractint from a msdos 7.xx
(Win95/Win98) Floppy boot disk. This only worls if you're file system is FAT16
or FAT32.
Or
Create a multiboot menu whereby you can boot
directly to MSDOS 7.xx. Thia also only works if your file system is FAT16 or
FAT32.
I recently posted complete directions how to do
create a multiboot system on Win2k and/or WinXp with
special configuration files & everything else you need to do the
"hack".
Once you create such a multiboot menu you can
switch between Ms-Dos 7.xx or your Windows (Win95, Win98, Win2k, WinXp)
system.
I'll either repost it to this EG or send it to you
privately.

Subject: [Fractint] Fast and...
slow
Hi,
Just a (maybe)
technical question...
I have observed that on many ".par" (from
fotd) projects that are rather slowly rendered on my computer, there is
an "accidental" way to speed up the rendering.
That is just by pressing a key (which has no
function in fractint, like "shift", to not disturb otherwise
the rendering).
The effect is that the rendering process seems to
speed up for a while (one or two lines of pixels), then slows
again.
Is it caused by some memory settings
?
I am under WinNT4, P3 / 533MHz, 576 Mb
of RAM. Of course, Fractint20 runs under the DOS window
of my WinNT.
Thanks,
RG
