FOTD -- April 29, 2011 (Rating 7) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: I often use the outside=fmod option to help locate elusive minibrots. This option draws concentric circles around the minibrots of all orders. When the centers of the circles are cut off, it is unlikely that minibrots will be found in the area. When I tried the 'fmod' option on today's scene, I saw almost at once that the circles are cut-off, which means there are no hidden minibrots. But I was surprised by the pattern created by the cut-off circles themselves, and refined it into the FOTD for April 29. The image uses only the final 1/3 or so of the color palette, which makes it basically a monochrome image. I tried several full color palettes, but none turned out as well as the silvery- blue one I used in the image. At this point I must humbly apologize for the spiral aspect of the image. I sometimes put down fractals with spirals, because we see so many of them, but this does not imply that I consider all fractal spirals fit to be cast aside. The spiral tendencies of today's image are what raised it to a rating of a 7. The name "That Old Black Magic" expresses my fascination at the way numbers can create entire infinite worlds, perhaps our own universe as well. The calculation time is a measly 33 seconds. The minor inconven- ience of running the parameter file may be avoided by viewing the finished image at: <http://www.crosscanpuzzles.com/Archives.html> and in high-definition at: <http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html> The original FOTD web site is located at: <http://www.Nahee.com/FOTD/> Heavy rain returned to Fractal Central Wednesday night, but the newly installed sump pump did its job, and the fractal basement suffered nothing more spectacular than a couple puddles. It's not ideal, but on a flood plain in a month of record rainfall, it's much better than manning and womaning the bailing buckets in the middle of the night. The rain moved out by daybreak Thursday, leading to a pleasant day, with partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 79F 26C. The fractal cats spent the day sleeping, which is what all cats do best. The next FOTD is due to be posted in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and don't warn others that they must do some- thing about 'man-made' climate change, aka global warming, until you are ready to park your own car for good.
