Friends, Jim Muth and I maintained a correspondence over a "back channel" about various aspects of my putting his FOTD images and discussions onto my server: http://www.emarketingiseasy.com/TESTS/FOTD/jim_muths_fotd.html Jim authorized me to post our most recent exchange to the Fractint list and it appears below. - Hal Lane ######################### # hallane@earthlink.net # #########################

Hal:
If you wish to forward this entire letter or just parts to the list, feel free to do so.

Sorry this posting business has been such a trial for you.
So am I.

I will continue to find fractals and write about them, but I will hold them on file until my own web page is up...
In addition to holding them for your site, would you be willing to continue to send me the FOTD parm files, images (and any discussion), so I can put them up on the current FOTD site -- until you get your web site going?
There will be no more FOTD images or discussion to send.
...so that there's no "gap in coverage" in FOTD's appearing day by day.
There can be no FOTD coverage gap, since the 'gap' is actually the end. The situation is not that I will never be able to send to the list. Both Earthlink and xmission are aware of the situation and working to resolve it. I will probably be able to send stuff to the list as always by the end of this week. I'll send a short test to the list every day so that I will know when the problem is solved.
The situation is that after what happened here Saturday, I have decided to abandon posting FOTD fractals and discussions to the Fractint list on a daily basis. If you want to imagine the details of what happened Saturday, imagine how you would react if, after writing what I described in the final FOTD, you tried to post the FOTD to the list and it bounced again. I have moved on from the FOTD and am now organizing plans for my upcoming web site.
I'm also willing to temporarily continue to post the parm file (and any discussion) to the Fractint list serve. This takes me very little time to do.
Many thanks, but there will be nothing to post.
You could consider temporarily shortening your FOTD discussion to free up time for your web site development...
With no FOTD at all, I will have ample time for the development.
Everyone on the Fractint list would be very sad if you permanently had no presence there.
I will still have a presence. I will remain a subscriber and join in any interesting discussions. If I turn up a really great image, I will post it just as I always have posted the FOTD's. What I am ending is the every-day posting schedule.
I feel like many (perhaps most) of the current lurkers and posters on the Fractint list serve are primarily drawn by the smooth flow of your FOTD fractals, as well as the convenience of viewing them with just a click or two.
Then they will be equally drawn to the upcoming web site, which if my present plans work out, will include improved, recolored, anti-aliased (if needed) versions of every one of the 5000 or so past FOTD images. I can now do a far better job on many of the earlier images. But obviously, this is a huge task that will not be completed in a week or two.
I have a grave concern that the list could fall into a deep, dark place without your presence.
If the list is in this delicate a condition, then it is in effect already dead.
I forgot to mention that Gmail email addresses are easy to obtain.
Yes, we use gmail for our business also. Check the full address of the Susan Brown subscription.
Do not think I am punishing the list for something some spammer is responsible for. I am simply taking the latest turn of events as a sign that the time has arrived to move on to my long- planned FOTD web site.
I will send the address of the upcoming web site to the list as soon as we find the best host, get the design worked out, and have enough stuff posted on it to make a trip worth the effort.
Jim Muth
