There are many ways to interpret a fractal ; a diode  does appear simplistic ,
however this is a building block of the transistor and logic circuits .
  The resonant LCr diode circuit exhibits chaotic behavior with period
doubling occuring at the intervals expected ; until drowned out by
possibly 1/f noise .
 
  An even simpler linear circuit consisting of a metal plate with high 
resistance connections around the boundary is used by various
high energy research institutes , possibly CERN , to measure particular
characteristics of particles . This information goes a fair way to proving
or disproving a number of theories , including string & quantum theories .

If anyone can code the diode equation into something the fractint formula parser can understand, and make a "diode" fractal, and it loox cool enuf, I will try to animate it.

It seems that many natural phenomenon, (like chemistry, my profession), can be modelled to some extent with fractals, often leading to interesting and unexpected results.
