Albrecht Niekamp requested that I: - post info on how to remove the malware delivered by the recent off-topic [Fractint] post, and - request that Tim Wegner remove the post containing the link to the malware. Here is some of what Albrecht sent me:
Suppose you place a warning in the Fractint forums and have the administrator (Tim) remove it from the archives - it IS there !! Probably some [Fractint List] users are now having severe problems and cannot deal with them. Remember I had more then 40 (fourty!) infections and it´s some kind of miracle how i got rid of them.
To remove the large number of malware items that the link installs, Albrecht said to: [I searched for and added the links -Hal]
Proceed as follows (my advice) Use the "Wise cleaner" to clean the browser cache and Winsxs: http://www.wisecleaner.com/ ($) Use the "Emsisoft Emergency Kit" for a manual scan, [of your] complete computer: https://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/eek/ also [use] the "ADW Cleaner": http://download.cnet.com/AdwCleaner/3000-7786_4-75851221.html All found items must be deleted, not quarantined, also [delete these] from your antivirus software. After the system restart you´re probably ok, I was.

If you clicked on the link you probably were not. Yesterday in the news was a warning about a new spy ware threat which is more powerful then any one seen before. I had about 40 to 50 spyware and trojan items in the Firefox cache: Users/your name/appdata/ roaming . Suppose you place a warning in the Fractint forums and have the administrator (Tim) remove it from the archives - it IS there !! Proceed as follwos (my advice) Use the "Wise cleaner" to clean the browser cache and Winsxs. Use the "Emsisoft Emergency Kit" for a manual scan, complete computer, also the "ADW Cleaner". Tell me if you need the adresses, the items should be easy to find, but only on their own locations.
