I believe the sstools.ini file you need to modify is located in the
directory: /usr/share/xfractint
Unless the install was modified to put the files some place other
than /usr.

To confirm the sstools.ini file is being used, add the line (or change
the inside=0 line): inside=4
in it (in the [xfractint] section).  Then the default Mandelbrot should
draw with the inside red.
