What are your default desktop video settings when in Windows XP? You can determine that by right-clicking your mouse on a blank part of your standard desktop and then clicking your "settings" tab. Is there a possibility in XP that you can't exceed the default video settings of your desktop? i.e. if your default video settings are at 640x480 you can't access 800x600, also check the settings of your Fractint.exe "Dos box".

Thanks to Tony et al.  I have added a second hard drive to my machine.  I created a FAT partitiion on it and put Fractint there.  I created a Fractint.cfg file by booting to DOS with a Windows 98 boot disk and running makefcfg.exe.

Oddly, the video modes in the new Fractint.cfg all work except one, 1600 x 1200.  I can live with that though.  I can use the disk video modes if I need to create a hi res picture for printing.

I still cannot get the program to use any video mode above 640 x 480  when going through Windows XP.  I must still boot to DOS to run Fractint to get the rest of the modes in Fractint.cfg to work.  It does not matter which boot disk I use for this, by the way, the XP or 98 version.
