Another question for the active fractint users.
I have vesa modes up to 1600x1200x256 available to me, but the only ones that work are 640x480x256 and less. I think this may be because my LCD monitors won't support the requested resolutions, or at least that fractint can't make the resolution change happen. I even tried setting XP to 1600x1200x256 before running Fractint. I am running fractint full screen. I have long since gotten rid of my last CRT multi-sync monitor.
So if folks would care to share your fractint environment, maybe share the monitor also. I'd be interested in operating system, graphics adapter, and monitor. Anyone successfully using an LCD monitor?
Tim "WinXP itself isn't the problem - it seems to be the hardware a/o chipset configuration. Athlon64 chips are good, Intel not so good. I have and have had several systems over the years;" My experience confirms Jack´s statement. Apparently all Nvidia Cards support Vesamodes and AMD cpu´s are the best combination. I use a new (second) nachine for XP with a fast AMD CPU (X2 270) and Nvidia GT 610 which is perfect for Audio// Video (HDMI Sound too) and has all available Vesa resolutions. 1600/1200 is not supported as the big flatscreen TV I use as monitor has a native reso of 1920/1080. The XP Dos mode works fast and reliable, you can switch between Fractint and windows without data loss. Albrecht
