It's good to hear that! ;-) The images were made with the venerable Vivid raytracer (and a lot of patience).
So far, the only discussion I saw was this one. I'm subscribed to the UF List, and the Fractal Arts List, only. After you posted your message, I gave abpf, FractalWorld, and Renderosity a quick look. I didn't see any discussion, so either it wasn't there, I missed it, or it was deleted before I got there.
I posted my comments about the spiral-oriented calendar a few days ago on the good ol' Fractint mailing list. I believe the final selections were a reflection of the publisher's taste, and even if all entries would have been sent directly to Avalanche, we'd end with a different, but still spiral-dominated, calendar.
