------------- JoTz said to me in a private email: ------------
...maybe you can pass the info [about my Fractint Boot CD/USB stick] to the rest of the [Fractint] mailing list, as I still cannot seem to post directly to it [after my recent forced email change.] The collection of emails from JoTz to me re his Fractint boot system are below, including a link to his zipped, downloadable file.
JoTz is seeking beta testers... And thanks, Albrecht, for your reposting info on this topic. - Hal Lane ######################## # hallane@earthlink.net ######################## ------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: LLOYD GARRICK [mailto:lgarr@colorado-hiking.net] Sent: Sunday, December 27, 2015 8:41 PM To: Hal Lane <hallane@???>; Albrecht Niekamp <multifrac@???>; Fractint and General Fractals Discussion <fractint@???> Subject: Fractint Operating System HeadZup folks - welcome me back. Comcast hosed my email 2 months ago and they won't let me fix it. I lost all my contacts, one of which was the fractint list etc., so if NY1 been sending me email and get no response thats why. Now I have this new email and reregistered with the mailing list, although I am having trouble posting and reading; computers suck! [actually, computers ROCK! It's the dum-stoopid peeple sometimes]. I am working on a "fractint operating system" boot CD which should solve all the problems people are having with current non-DOS systems. It will be an "ISO" file and I will post it on my server. All you need to do is use it to burn a boot CD and boot with it on ANY system that has at least one FAT/FAT32 partition on the hardrive, and it will be just like the good old days. Gimme a little more time now - almost done. Full instructions will be included. I am currently doing final touches and "debugging" , should be uploaded soon - this week. IF I can successfully post to the list and let everyone know. Forgot all about it! Thanks for reminding me. I have been using one for years on my DOS-without windows systems. Most systems have "legacy USB support" ; it is usually ON by default, but if not, can be turned on by entering the SETUP (BIOS) screen on startup. Not all sticks work however, depending on how they are formatted - just have to try yours and see. Also, the stick MUST be inserted BEFORE the computer is powered on. I will check-see if it can be used with the boot disk. If so, there may be no need to create a FAT partition! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- From: LLOYD GARRICK [mailto:lgarr@colorado-hiking.net] Sent: Monday, December 28, 2015 4:00 PM To: Hal Lane <hallane@earthlink.net>; Albrechtx_Multifract!!! <Multifrac@t-online.de>; Fractint and General Fractals Discussion <fractint@mailman.xmission.com> Subject: Re: [Fractint] Fractint Operating System The file [for my Fractint Boot CD/USB stick system] is uploaded: http://www.fractal-animation.net/special/FractintOS.zip About 21Meg ; it contains the ISO file, a buncha fractint / fractal stuff and detailed instructions. I tried the USB stick method - and it works! So no messing with partitions needed [although I would expect a serious fractalnaut to wanna do it that way ...] Give me feedback and comments so I can refine it if need; it is on my server so anyone can download it; I don't know if this email is going to the full list. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ --- --- This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software. https://www.avast.com/antivirus
