FOTD -- March 14, 2012 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: Mandelbrot images and Julia images are slices cut at two different orientations through the 4-dimensional hyperthings known as Julibrots. But there are also four other perpendicular orientations in Julibrots, which I unofficially call Oblate, Rectangular, Parabolic and Elliptic. Today's image shows the Oblate view of yesterday's cubic minibrot, which is determined by the imag(c) and real(z) axes of the Julibrot. The coloring is almost the same, but the shapes have undergone a terrible transformation. Instead of the attractive symmetrical patterns surrounding the minibrot in yesterday's image, we have the stretched, tortured patterns surrounding it today. Despite the identical colors, the disfigurement cuts the rating from a 9 to a 6. The name "Trouble in 4-D" refers to this drastic deterioration of the rating.
