You might be interested in the FREE application "Media Monkey". It handles several audio file formats, allows editing of file properties, produces statistics (if you have a large collection), and much more.
When Microsoft got rid of the ability to do Advanced Tag Editor within Windows Media Player (after version 11), I found that Media Monkey satisfied my needs. Especially since I have well over 55,000 files in my audio folder, covering over 3,200 artists.
