Actually, many ISPs now include multiple e-mail addresses. So you can create disposable email addresses. Also, IIRC, there is a 3rd party product that can provide POP3 access to Hotmail and several other free mail services. Someone mentioned it on the Pegasus Mail discussion list. Anyway, spam is something that can be dealt with easily. Don't have much choice here, since the only other interfaces to Hotmail are Outlook (blech) and the Web interface (double bletch, and can't save messages locally). And hotmail is the only free email provider that's reasonably stable over years. And a non-free email address can't be risked on usenet or a mailing list, since it can't be thrown away and replaced easily if it gets too much spam or some loser decides to mailbomb it...
