FOTD -- August 16, 2007 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: What does one get if he subtracts Z^(1.2) from Z^(0.8)? A parent fractal of course. And where does one search in this parent fractal for an interesting scene? That depends on the explorer's temperament. Being the designated explorer, I searched the northwest outskirts of the parent, where a large midget is located. I checked especially carefully in the East Valley area of this parent, where, concealed deep in a harmless bit of fractal debris, I found today's scene, complete with sub-midget. I worked a bit on the colors, but I couldn't make a prize-winner from so little raw material, so I satisfied myself with a rating of a 6. The name I gave the image, "Key-Lime Pie" has more to do with the green color palette than any resemblance to that Florida treat. The reasonable calculation time of 1-1/2 minutes will make rendering the image from the included parameter file a treat. And those who don't care for sweet treats may view the already- calculated image on the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> The humidity returned to Fractal Central on Wednesday, making the temperature of 86F 30C a little too oppressive for comfort. The fractal cats were worn out after a futile night of chasing a bat around the house. Around 4am I finally located the critter behind a curtain, caught it, wrapped it in a towel and released it outside. The only harm was to my sleep and Fractal Lady's nerves. As for the cats, they had one of their most frustrating nights ever -- all that running and leaping, and no kill. This afternoon they were still hoping for the bat to reappear. Except for the batty start, today was basically normal. The next FOTD will appear in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and stay alert.
