FOTD -- May 18, 2004 (Rating *) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The time has come for the next FOTD to appear, but I am still behind in my work. I do not wish to disappoint, so I have gone to Fractal Land and taken the first thing I found, which in this case, not surprisingly, turns out to be a midget. The fact that it is not quite a quadratic midget is a bit more surprising. The generating expression is Z^(2.03)+C, which means that, when the MandelbrotBC2 formula is used, the resulting image can be of many different shapes. In this case however, since the exponent is so close to 2, most fractals will be a rotated version of the traditional Mandelbrot set, with a bit of distortion thrown in to make things interesting. In today's case, the parent M-set is rotated only slightly clockwise. The main bud has come apart, with near total chaos in the area between the two competing remnants. Today's image lies in this chaos.. I gave the image a wild-card rating. I put too little effort into it to consider a firm rating. In fact, I am not even certain it is worthy of being a FOTD. I named the image "Random Shapes" which is basically a full description. The render time of under 3 minutes makes it almost worth the effort of running the included parameter file. I still have quite a bit of work to do, plus drifts of cicada shells to sweep away, so if I miss a FOTD or two in the coming week or so, don't be concerned. I merely will be still trying to catch up in the work. Needless to say, the cats dashed into hiding, and were not seen for several hours. Today is looking to be a repeat. We'll see how it goes.
