FOTD -- November 14, 2005 (Rating 5) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: After the recent mistake I have decided to change the schedule of the FOTD. Instead of posting the FOTD around midday of its scheduled date, I will post it in the late evening of the day before or the very early morning of its scheduled date. Thus I am posting the FOTD for November 14 around midnight of the 13th. The image is a very old one -- from the late 1980's. It was originally in 16-color PCX format but I converted it to GIF to make it viewable in the Fractint program. Unfortunately, it was created by another fractal program, one that did not record parameters, so I cannot supply a parameter file. The only way to see the image is to download it from the FOTD web site at: <http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html> I have already sent the image, so unless something else has gone wrong, which, with my current luck, is entirely possible, it will probably be posted by the time you read this. This is typical of the stuff I was doing when I started my fractal adventures around 17 years ago. The image is obviously a scene in a perturbed Mandelbrot set. At the time I was fascinated by the intricate spirals of the perturbed sets, and also by the fact that a ghost image of the true M-set remains in the background of the perturbed sets. It was also around this time when I realized that the Mandelbrot sets and Julia sets are sections of the same four-dimensional object sliced in totally perpendicular directions. Today's image is named "Very Early". Unable to decide on a rating, I settled on an average rating of a 6. A near perfect day (lots of sun and 68F 20C) here at Fractal Central on Sunday gave the cats exactly what they needed to display their best behavior. They spent the afternoon alternating between the mostly shaded porch and the well concealed holly thicket. When evening arrived, they came inside for their tuna without being called. My day consisted of raking leaves and trying to think of a reason to avoid the task. The next FOTD will appear with its parameter file in 24 hours. Until then, take care, and where would we be without fractals? Jim Muth jamth@mindspring.com jimmuth@aol.com NO PARAMETER FILE AVAILABLE=============================
