FOTD -- April 26, 2003 (Rating 6) Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: During the past day or so I have been pondering the parallel universes that, as weird as it may seem, must now be assumed to exist. As a result of the scientific investigations of the past 50 years or so, we have come to realize that an infinity of infinities of these other universes must exist. Not only does every possible universe exist, an infinity of every possible universe exists. Right now, if this phrase has any meaning, there are an infinity of other versions of myself typing these same words. There are an infinity of other myselves that have made the same single mis-spelling in one word of the discussion. And there are an infinity of myselves that have found exactly the same fractal for today's FOTD. So I guess fractals are not quite as unique as I once supposed. Today's fractal, by the way, reminds me of a bowl of jelly- beans. I named it "Jelly-Bean Fantasy" accordingly. It is part of the parent fractal that results when various portions of 1/Z and Z^(-2) are combined, and 1/C is added before the whole thing is iterated with an escape radius of 340. Using whole-number powers of Z prevents distracting discontinui- ties from forming, though, as is the case with most fractals with negative exponents, different elements tend to overlap. The rating of 6 is reasonably honest. I could have done better if I had tried harder. But a 6 is still above average, so this rating will remain. The 23 minutes spent waiting for the image to render from the parameter file could most likely be spent in more productive endeavors. The cats' moods have been changeable as well. As a single example, Friday was warm and sunny; today is starting rainy and chilly. This is the way it goes in this part of the world at this time of year. The dynamic duo appears sullen, as they always are when it is raining, but they will survive the inconvenience -- at least they always have in the past. As for myself, I'm using the bad weather to catch up on some tasks that have needed to be done around the place for some time. The daily FOTD will resume on schedule this Thursday, May 1.
