It depends on the specific card, and XP driver, a card that worked in windows 98 may not work in XP for fractint. I don't have enough knowledge or time, or I'd look at adding in the ability to send the output to a XP compatible window. Martin Krikorian wrote:
Thanks, all for the answers.
SF7 is what I have used in the past under W95 on my old box. With the new box no VESA drivers work - SF7 gets me a mixed up screen, while most VESA drivers just deliver an error message.
The box runs on my company's network, so I am not able to re-partition the hard drive, and I like to run Fractint in the background during the day while I work, so re-booting with DOS is not what I want either.
The question is: has anyone found a driver that will work with this generic 'on the motherboard' graphics adaptor? Right now only the drivers on the list that will work are IBM VGA versions, and most of those with annoying strobing. The only other hope I seem to have is to get an alternative graphics card (an antique one, I assume,) and install it, just to run Fractint. Any other suggestions?

I have XP pro on a laptop and XP Home on my current desktop and I've yet to see any difference in perfomance in regards to display. My 'default' display mode is shift/F7 (i.e., 1024x768 with 256 colors); what happens, Marty, when you try that? Russ --

Marty, I'm running Widows XP Home on a Dell laptop (Inspiron 8200) with an Nvidia card. And to my amazement Fractint runs in high resolution mode...I'm no expert but I would bet it could be XP pro - try the home version. Perhaps others have other solutions. Alex
