Most probably Fractint's periodicity checking is kicking in in such a case (z as a predefined variable is set to zero and remains that way if you don't use it in your formula). For testing purposes: Periodicity checking can be adjusted at the bottom of the 'y'-screen (0 disables, numbers > 1 make it less aggressive). Regards, Gerald
